Do you as a parent or carer at home with your children during the school shut down, feel that you need someone to talk to about how you can cope with this challenging time for families?
Birmingham Educational Psychology Service is providing a telephone helpline for any parent or carers of children, who feel they would benefit from a consultation with a psychologist to support them with any concerns arising at this time, for them or their families.
Areas of concern you may wish to discuss could include:
· Anxiety around the current situation and its impact on your children and family.
· Supporting you to support your children’s emotional needs.
· Concerns about family relationships.
· Concerns about friendships, learning, daily structure and activities.
· How to best look after yourself so you can support your children.
The concerns can be related to school or family life.
You will be offered an initial telephone consultation of 30 minutes with a psychologist and a potential follow up session of another 30-minute consultation at a later date. These will be Monday-Friday, within standard working hours.
If you would like to access this service please email: Stephanie.Bowen@birmingham.gov.uk with the following information:
· Your name
· The telephone number you would like to be contacted on.
· The name of your child’s school.
· Times and dates you are not available for a consultation.

We will aim to get back to you within 2 working days to confirm a time and date for your consultation.
This service will, as far as possible, be confidential.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister addressed the nation on coronavirus (COVID-19) and asked people to stay at home, except for very limited purposes.
There is no change in guidance for education settings, which remain closed except for the children of critical workers and vulnerable children. We continue to ask that parents keep their children at home, wherever possible.
The full stay at home guidance is available at:

A reminder that only pupils of key workers and vulnerable pupils including those with an EHCP should be in school.
Information from the DFE is below.
We have asked parents to keep their children at home, wherever possible, and for schools to remain open only for those children who absolutely need to attend.
It is important to underline that schools, all childcare settings (including early years settings, childminders and providers of childcare for school-age children), colleges and other educational establishments, remain safe places for children. But the fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society.
Schools, and all childcare providers, are therefore being asked to continue to provide care for a limited number of children - children who are vulnerable, and children whose parents are critical to the COVID-19 response and cannot be safely cared for at home.
While as many schools as possible should try to stay open for eligible pupils, this will not be possible for all settings and the local authority should coordinate pooling of resources so pupils are able to access provision elsewhere.
Thank you to all who are adhering to this advice . Please stay safe and well.
We hope that parents find the link below useful and supportive
