Intent
"We educate our children in a Catholic community with Christ at the centre'.
At St Brigid’s, our Religious Education is at the centre of our curriculum. It takes a prominent place with at least 10% of our teaching time being devoted it.
Our school will offer a high standard of Catholic education where children can grow in understanding and in the acquisition of skills, attitudes and values, preparing them for their transition to secondary school, future learning and employment. Our curriculum is designed to support all learners and is accessible to all; irrespective of disadvantage and special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), thus promoting God’s unique plan for every child. Teachers carefully plan and adapt lesson PowerPoints and resources to meet the needs of all pupils, enabling them to acquire the essential core knowledge and skills.
We aim to lead our children into a close, loving relationship with God through Prayer, Worship, Sacraments and Scripture. All year groups in school follow the Archdiocese of Birmingham scheme of work entitled 'Learning and Growing as the People of God.' This is a progressive scheme building on the skills and knowledge acquired in previous years. Each year group teaches a range of units of work which cover Scripture, Sacraments, Living as Christians and the Liturgical Year. This ensures that all children cover a wide range of units throughout each year group, including the Catholic Pupil Profile which helps the children to understand what it means to be Catholic today.
